SUMMARY:Painting Series - "Taking Some of the Worry Out of Painting"
DESCRIPTION:Date and Times: \n\nThe workshop will be on Tuesday afternoons
  starting Sept. 24th\, 2024\, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM and run for 6 weekly se
 ssions.\n\nDescription:\n\nPainting is challenging\, we want to worry abou
 t what to paint instead of how to paint it. The idea is to be comfortable 
 with the procedure of painting so you are free to be creative. The emphasi
 s will be on oil painting\, but if anyone wants to use gouache\, that coul
 d work because a lot of the issues with oil as a medium\nalso apply to gou
 ache.\n\nWe will try to get more confident with color and color mixing. Al
 so work on problems artists have with paint application and the best way t
 o start a painting. Also issues with solvents and mediums. We also will wo
 rk on better design and composition.\n\nWe will be mainly doing painting s
 tudies in the 8 x 10 or 9 x 12 sizes with the goal being to quickly block 
 in the large color shapes and values so that you have a pretty good color 
 and value composition before diving into the details.  Also planning ahea
 d so that you can put in the details without fighting the wet paint undern
 eath.  We also have to work on getting comfortable with drawing with a br
 ush!\n\nThere are two big screen TVs that I put images up on to paint from
 . I will probably do some basic demos\, but want everyone else to do most 
 of the painting.  The images that I offer to paint are suggestions for th
 e studies.  If someone brings an image (a photo of an image or say an ima
 ge on an iPad ) that they would like to paint\, that would be fine.\n\nThe
  Materials List that I recommend:\nAn easel\n8 x 10 or 9 x 12 canvas panel
 s (could go as big as 11 x 14).\nThese are going to be mainly studies\, so
  I suggest inexpensive\npanels. You can get them from many sources\, Micha
 els\, Hobby Lobby\, Blicks\, Amazon\, Meiningers etc.\n\nPaint Colors:  (
 what I mainly use\, but any colors that approximate these would work)\nTit
 anium white\nNaples yellow pale (certainly optional\, but a great color)\n
 Winsor and Newton -\n\nCadmium orange\nLt. Red (very handy color but optio
 nal)\nCadmium red medium\nAlizarin Crimson\nUltramarine blue\nCobalt blue\
 nPermanent green\nSap green\nRaw umber\nBurnt umber\nIvory black\n\nThis i
 s a pretty extensive Winsor and Newton palette. You can get away with one 
 blue\, and one green. You can get similar colors with gouache\,\nIf you ha
 ve palette colors you’re happy with\, just use that.\n\nBrushes:\nBrushe
 s are pretty important. Everyone has favorites.\nThese are some of mine:\n
 Trekell Opal. #2\, 4 and 6 flats or brights\nSilver Bristlon brights #2 an
 d 4 flats\, brights or filberts\nRosemary ivory synthetics #2\, 4 and 6\nG
 rumbacher Gainsborough #2\, 4 and 6 flats or brights\nBeste Golden Takalon
  round #4 This is the only round suggested\, you may want a small round br
 ush #1 or a Rigger\nMight also need one larger brush #8? Probably not nece
 ssary\nThese are just suggestions\n\nSolvents:\nSuggest Terpenoid or other
  odorless solvents\n\nMiscellaneous\;\nPaper towels\, palette knife\n\nLoc

 on the southwest corner of Haycreek Rd and Tapadero Dr. has a white fence 
 around the property.\n\nWe will be painting in the art barn which is the l
 arge building to the left as you come into the property\, nearest the pond
