Two morning Plein Air events took place during June with PLAG member Karin Toppel providing instruction and discussions at the Red Rock Canyon Park and the Garden of the Gods. Karin’s preliminary demonstration reviewed Plein Air kit components and resources, preferred limited palette, brushes best suited to Plein Air and the development of overall compositional elements through thumb nail sketches and value studies. For the second session Karin created a series of color mixing charts to assist participants in the use of different paints, including variations with transparent and fully opaque paints, to use when achieving the colors of different stone formations and foliage in the area. With nine PLAG members and several guest painters present, the sessions were widely praised for both content and the personal coaching members received from Karin throughout the two days.
