Cavan Porter Palmer Ridge High School $1500 Scholarship Recipient:
Art has always been a major part of my life and in my family. The part about art that excites me the most is the possibility and potential of a blank canvas, page, or any material has to become something great and express so much on its own. All it takes is a person with a dream and the want to create. I plan to apply to Pikes Peak State College to get my general coursework done. During this time I want to take some art classes but I want to focus on exploring my own portfolio more in depth and possibly looking at another theme to focus on outside of my school work. After I complete my general coursework I hope to go to an art school or college that has a good art program so I can get some type of art degree to further develop my own craft and hopefully get a job doing what I love.

Ella Graves Lewis Palmer High School $500 Scholarship Recipient:
In my mind, to make art is to notice and understand the world around you. In order to capture the intricate beauty of something, you have to understand how the parts work together to create the hole. This applies to color, light, anatomy, and more. By studying it through observation or through practice, an artist is able to understand the world they live in on a more intimate level. Becoming more aware of the complexity that makes up even the simplest of items creates a deep connection to the world. This bond in itself is a beautiful concept. But it becomes all the more stunning when you realize that to notice and understand something is the foundation of love. This is a strong personal value of mine, and it applies to many areas. It is often said that we fear things we do not understand, and I believe the opposite is true as well. As I have advanced in my artistic journey, I have noticed not only my understanding of the world grow deeper, but my love for it has expanded as well. I have committed to Brigham Young University, where much of my family has gone in the past. I plan to study and proceed 3D and 2d animation. I tell stories that will make people appreciate the animation industry.
